7 Golden Rules while Resigning from a Work Role!

1. Decision to Leave the Job

Prepare yourself - Make sure you're certain you want to leave and that it's the best decision for you. Before deciding to quit, ensure to analyse the Pros and Cons.

Ensure you have at least 6 months cashflow to run yourself before you find another job.

Thanks to the then CEO of Syntel Inc, Chennai – Rangarajan Jayakar who guided me on this during my decision to quit and start my venture as Entrepreneurs.

2.   Notice Period

Most of us do not read the Notice Period clause in our Employment Contract / Appointment Letter.  Take care to read and adhere to the clause to have a smooth exit from the current employment.

It is advised to provide for the notice period and to ensure proper handover and knowledge transfer.

Remember at any given point of time the referral check is mandatory, even after several years in case you are applying for a Green Card or for otherwise.

3.  Handing Over and Knowledge Transfer

Your exit from your current employment will be proper only on due handover and knowledge transfer being done as per the HR Policy and you complete the exit formalities.

Ensure to get the Exit formalities completed and signed-off from the HR before you quit, on the last working day.

Completion of the Exit Formalities are mandatory for any claim of your dues from the current employment.  This includes returning of Company Assets to the employer and taking acknowledgement of the return of assets.
